Correspondence, distance, ODL — the same family
“Correspondence course” is the older Indian term for what regulation now calls Open and Distance Learning (ODL). It described study by post: printed material arrived, assignments went back, examinations were written at a centre.
The delivery has moved on — material is downloadable, support is online, some examinations are remotely proctored — but the underlying model is the same, and so is the governing check. If a university awards the degree, it needs UGC-DEB entitlement for that mode and session, exactly as with any distance programme.
