At the lower price tiers these two options sit within a few thousand rupees of each other, which is why people compare them on price and miss the real difference. They are different products.
Take the degree if a rule demands it

- You are targeting government posts that specify a postgraduate degree
- Your employer’s HR policy names a recognised degree for band change
- You may study abroad, where the awarding university’s recognition is assessed
Take the autonomous programme if capability is the goal
- Curricula update faster, because no external syllabus revision cycle gates them
- Teaching sits closer to live industry practice
- No session-by-session entitlement dependency to monitor
- Specialisations exist that universities simply do not offer
The precedent
India’s most respected management institutes ran on the autonomous model for decades. The IIMs were societies registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, awarding a PGDM diploma rather than a degree, until the IIM Act, 2017 — and nobody questioned the value of what they taught. IICT and IIPM have operated autonomously for over 30 years on the same logic, and new-age schools such as Masters’ Union and Mesa School of Business use it today.
Why management education suits autonomy
Rigid syllabus structures work for disciplines where the fundamentals move slowly. Management is not one of them — what a marketing or operations professional needs to know changes materially every few years. Autonomy is what lets a programme keep up.
